The annual Lyon County Breastfeeding Bash, hosted by CareArc’s Women’s, Infants, and Children (WIC) program throughout Wednesday, provided a place for local mothers to collect resources about breastfeeding and many other areas of motherhood.

Mothers could pursue a wide variety of vendors, with resources available from CareArc, Crosswinds, United Way, Beacon For Hope Suicide Prevention, and areas around the county.

According to WIC Director Diana Moore, each resource was open to anyone interested in breastfeeding, not just a WIC client.

“WIC has a breastfeeding support group that's open to the whole community,” Moore said. “I want people to understand that it's not just for WIC clients. It's for everybody who is considering breastfeeding or is already breastfeeding.”

WIC, an income-based federal nutrition program that provides healthy food packages to breastfeeding mothers. Mothers who formula feed only also qualify for the program for six months. Food packages include items such as cereal, baby foods, and nutrient-rich foods.

To Moore, the Breastfeeding Bash is about offering community.

“This is a community,” Moore said. “It's not something that she has to do all on her own. If she's struggling, then there's lots of places for her to go, not just WIC. The hospital and ECKAN have resources. CareArc has resources. Everybody is here as a community to help serve the public.”
