United Way of the Flint Hills received a $2,000 grant to fund the Blessing Box program in Emporia. The grant comes through Frontier Farm Credit’s Working Here Fund.

The Working Here Fund grant will provide money to purchase healthier, shelf-stable food options for the Blessing Boxes. The funds will support twice-monthly restocking of all boxes until the grant is exhausted.

“In November 2025, when SNAP benefits were temporarily withheld, many families faced an alarming rise in food insecurity—highlighting the urgent need for accessible, no-cost food options,” said Maddie Craig, community impact manager. “Although SNAP benefits have since resumed, the need for reliable and easily accessible food resources remains strong. Blessing Boxes continue to play a critical role in meeting that need.”

Thirteen boxes are currently maintained throughout Emporia through the collective efforts of community groups, individuals, and local businesses.

United Way of the Flint Hills is one of 26 organizations to receive a Working Here Fund grant in the fourth quarter of 2025. Frontier Farm Credit awarded $197,935 during the latest grant cycle, which ended Dec. 31, 2025.

“At Frontier Farm Credit, we value the opportunity to help alleviate hunger in rural communities,” said Karla Rosell, regional vice president of customer experience at Frontier Farm Credit’s Emporia office.
